The “Check-In” Advantage

Check-in lessons are exactly that: a follow-up scheduled about 3-4 days after your core lesson. This is designed to devote additional time towards any specific concerns the students may have, provide practice motivation, and evaluate mid-week progress, all at a discounted rate.

About Legato Studios

Some of my fondest memories growing up were made while visiting my mother’s elementary school classroom. A teaching veteran, she demonstrated how to create an environment where her students were challenged and motivated but with no shortage of nurturing encouragement.

As a 16 year old homeschooler, I had the opportunity to adopt that same approach with my own students at the local after-school strings program. I found so much satisfaction in witnessing the joy of a student when they’d play through their piece perfectly, nail a difficult passage in the music, or perform in a first recital.

Over the past decade, my students have ranged from the ages of 3 to 93. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned all students have in common, it’s that they progress and respond best when they feel supported. It’s my goal to provide that support for each student in every lesson.

Performing Isn’t Just For The Stage….

Why wait for that yearly recital for an opportunity to have students perform? In my studio, the important skills needed to succeed on stage are taught as a core part of their studies. In order for a student to graduate to their next piece, we have what’s called, Performance Week.”

Performance week is all about training students on how to own it on stage, whether that’s in the living room, or Carnegie Hall. Families have the opportunity to be the audience as their child practices what they’ve learned about performance etiquette, how to connect with their breath to stay centered in the heat of nerves, and most importantly, how to stay on track when a mistake is made.

What I enjoy most about preparing for this is carving out the time with my students to tap into their imaginations to create a narrative for their pieces. We explore how the melodies and harmonies in our music can be translated into feelings and stories. These performance opportunities become a highlight of the lesson experience at Legato Studios for both parents and students alike.
